Big Sky Dog Training’s mission is to create a positive and fun environment where you and your puppy or dog learn together. Beyond obedience commands, Big Sky Dog Training provides a practical, high-quality, reward-based training program that helps your dog understand that you are the safe, strong, dependable, and consistent leader your dog wants to obey.
These dog obedience programs are designed to teach essential commands that every dog should know. We teach you how to use verbal and hand signals when asking a dog to perform a cue (command). All training techniques used in these classes are reward-based, positive and force free. Your dog or puppy will also learn manners, social skills and how to integrate into the world around them. Classes are kept small (7) dogs to reduce distractions and increase individual attention. A $15.00 fee will be paid to the instructor at the first class. This fee covers books and supplies each participant will receive throughout the class.
Puppy Obedience:
This class is open to vaccinated puppies aged 10 weeks and over. Beginning the proper socialization process during puppyhood ensures that your puppy will more likely grow to be a well-adjusted and highly adaptable to other dogs, people, and situations.
This class is designed as a positive and reward-based Puppy Head Start Program. Your puppy will learn to focus and give you their attention, sit, down, stand, wait and stay, walk on a loose leash, walk through a door correctly, and recall (come). Each lesson will also focus on your concerns, like housebreaking, chewing, jumping, and barking. This class will teach you the reasoning behind a puppy’s thought process and the prevention of and response to unwanted behaviors.
Other essential puppy information will be provided, such as proper socialization, dog food, grooming, and health issues. The class will
teach you the best ways to train your puppy while living your life. People interested in obtaining their dog’s AKC S.T.A.R Certification can take the test at the end of the class.
This program is inappropriate for puppies that are reactive or aggressive to other puppies, dogs, or people.
Basic Obedience:
This class is open to vaccinated puppies and dogs 5 months and over who have learned the basic commands like sit, down, stand, stay, and recall. We will review these commands and introduce other commands like take it, drop it, go to your “place,” side, auto sit, and waiting before exiting a door outside. An increase in the difficulty of exercises by extending the time, distance and distractions for each command will be added also.
At each lesson, we will also focus on your concerns, like jumping, chewing, barking, and pulling on the leash, to name a few. This class will teach you how to effectively train your dog while getting your dog to adapt to your schedule and lifestyle. People interested in obtaining their dog’s AKC S.T.A.R. or Canine Good Citizen Certification can take the test at the end of the class.
This program is inappropriate for puppies that are reactive or aggressive to other dogs, or people.
Intermediate Obedience:
This class is open to vaccinated puppies and dogs 8 months and over who have learned the basic commands like sit, down, stay, recall, waiting at doorways, leave it, drop it. etc. This interactive class will add other commands like healing, stop, recall of two dogs at a time, long line exercises, supervised separation, and go to your place, to name a few.
